Based on Likes/Dislikes Handouts and other Week#6 Readings
Discussing Culture Views & Perspectives (Likes/Dislikes)
Round#1 - Meet with your group from last week. You all received the same Likes/Dislikes handout. Take about 15 minutes to discuss your handout and share your reactions (positive/negative, surprising, upsetting, etc.)
Round#2 - We will ‘jigsaw’ and you will be in a group with people who received different handouts. Take 5~10 minutes each to share the most interesting items from your handout. Then together as as group discuss the questions below.

- Which of the likes/dislikes from the handout were most surprising and/or interesting?
- What other materials (kikinitinkorea, videos, blog posts) grabbed your attention?
- Which dislikes or negative opinions bothered you? Which do you consider to be inaccurate?
Of these, which do you think resulted from - a misunderstanding of your culture?
- cultural animosity and/or condescension?
- a difference in values and/or worldview?
- Have you encountered non-Koreans* with these experiences and/or opinions? What did you say or do in that situation?
- What could you say to non-Koreans to help them understand, avoid, and/or deal with the dislikes they mentioned?
- What could you say to Koreans to help them better understand and deal with non-Koreans’ likes and dislikes?
- What are some of the things you’d list as ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes’ of dealing with non-Koreans (inside and outside of Korea)?
*please substitute ‘South African’ for ‘Korean’ when appropriate
